no cars for freshmen
Why do weekends seem to be so deserted and lonely on SRU campus? Even the town seems like a ghost town compared to the week day traffic and bustle. Most college towns seem to thrive even during the weekends, but here it is the complete opposite. So many students live so close to home and they seem to opt to drive home every weekend for some reason or another. I personally cannot do anything productive whenever I go home for the weekend, so I try to stay up in Slippery Rock as much as possible. I think a big problem with alot of the freshmen is that they all have the option to have cars on campus, which is nice I enjoyed that option alot my first year, but I think it can be a negative thing. If freshmen did not have such an easy access to a vehicle, I think alot more students would stay on campus, causing a need for more weekend activities on campus for them to take part in. Also by staying, I believe the majority would do better in their classes, instead of worrying about driving everywhere and anywhere. So my suggestion is to possibly look into taking away the option for freshmen to have cars on campus the first year of study. This action would also help with the parking issue, allowing more spots to be made for upperclassmen who reside on campus and also commuters.

I agree with you. It was nice having a car my freshman year, but I definitely would have stayed at Slippery Rock more often on weekends if I didn't have my car. A lot of other schools don't allow freshman to have cars on campus and I think that's a good thing because that helps them get more involved in activities on the weekends. But I also used to go home most weekends to work. So that wouldn't be good for someone who has a job at home to not be able to have a car on campus.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that freshmen should not be able to have cars. I liked having a car freshman year but I agree that to many freshmen go home. It makes Slippery Rock seem empty. The parking is also an issue. Being that every freshmen has the option to bring a car puts a damper on the parking spots available for upper class students. So i do agree for no cars for freshmen.
ReplyDeleteI agree that freshmen shouldn't have cars. I also believe that only upperclassmen should only have the opportunity to have a car on campus. I think the reason people go home is to work or to see a girlfriend or boyfriend. I believe later on in the semester there will be a lot more people staying up here because their will be more events to do on the weekend and everyone will know more people that will stay up on the weekends too. I think that the parking spots should only be available to upperclassmen, commuters, staff, and people who have to work on the weekends. This will help with the parking spaces at Slippery Rock
