Physical Education Resources

I have been doing alot of research lately for not only this PE tech class but for my other PE classes as well. The amount of information I have been finding in the library, in books from other past classes, and the internet amazes me sometimes. There is so much information out there for future and current teachers to use to make amazing lesson plans that will help their students grow in physical activity knowledge and health that it is a shame not everyone takes advantage of it. There are so many teachers out there that are trying to give PE a good name again and then there are teachers out there that just do the bare minimum. It is a sad thing to see. I was one of the students in a school that had a gym teacher who was content in just passing us a basketball and telling us to play for half an hour. That is one of the reasons I wanted to get into the teaching field, to be able to change the way students see PE. I want to reach the non athletes and athletes alike to get them interested and excited about lifelong physical activity. So please use the abundant amount of resources we have this day and age to your advantage to help yourself and your students when you become a teacher.

bad choices all over

I try to work out, stay in shape, eat right, and yet sometimes I can't help but stray from the path from time to time. Today was one of those days and I am starting to regret my impulsive choices. Me and my roommate decided to head to Giant Eagle to grab a few snacks since we were running low. Everything was going fine until we were headed back to the check out area to leave and we saw a frozen garlic bread 4 cheese pizza that looked AMAZING! I am not a fan of the frozen pizza, and I try to stay away from that stuff, but it was so tempting that we purchased it. We immediately went back to our place to bake the pizza for a late lunch. All was going smoothly until I decided that the pizza was done and I went to take it out of the oven. I didn't have my oven mits on because I forgot and I ended up burning the top of the left hand on the oven reaching in the pull a hot pan out with my bare hands. Real smart of me, I know. So now after making an impulisve decision to get a frozen pizza made with garlic bread and 4 cheeses on top, I have burn blisters on my hand. I guess this is what I get for skipping my work out today and eating so unhealthy. Hopefully my hand gets better soon!

no cars for freshmen

Why do weekends seem to be so deserted and lonely on SRU campus? Even the town seems like a ghost town compared to the week day traffic and bustle. Most college towns seem to thrive even during the weekends, but here it is the complete opposite. So many students live so close to home and they seem to opt to drive home every weekend for some reason or another. I personally cannot do anything productive whenever I go home for the weekend, so I try to stay up in Slippery Rock as much as possible. I think a big problem with alot of the freshmen is that they all have the option to have cars on campus, which is nice I enjoyed that option alot my first year, but I think it can be a negative thing. If freshmen did not have such an easy access to a vehicle, I think alot more students would stay on campus, causing a need for more weekend activities on campus for them to take part in. Also by staying, I believe the majority would do better in their classes, instead of worrying about driving everywhere and anywhere. So my suggestion is to possibly look into taking away the option for freshmen to have cars on campus the first year of study. This action would also help with the parking issue, allowing more spots to be made for upperclassmen who reside on campus and also commuters.

junior year

So this is my Junior year at SRU and it is an action-packed exciting one at that! I already am feeling quite overwhelmed at the course load I am putting myself through. I just have to remember to keep my goal in mind while I go through this torture, GRADUATION! Since I am a double major I probably will not graduate in the next 2 years, it will take more like 3 more years. This is unfortunate, but well worth it in the end when I graduate with 2 majors that I love.
